GUNNER OF THE WEEK

Boy does he have big shoes to fill. But I think he just might be it!!

After the great giants, David Seaman and Jens Lehmann, I thought it would be impossible to get another good goalie. Wojciech Szczęsny is busy proving us all wrong. And therefore this Polish fella is my Gunner of the Week!

*falls off chair* Born in 1990!! Wooot? We definitely like em young loool. Szczęsny started his career by playing for Warsaw at the mere age of 15. In 2006 he joined the Arsenal youth set-up where he then went on to play on the reserve team for the 2008/2009 season. Unfortunately he had an accident where both forearms were fractured while lifting heavy weights. He had to miss 5 months of footie. He eventually made his first team debut playing against West Bromwich Albion. Szczęsny had a clean sheet for that game.

Through seasons 2010-2013 he had quite a rocky few games. Really making us question his ability as a keeper. But he seems to get up every single time after a backlash and Wenger always benching him lol. Our 2013/2014 season however speaks volumes :)

"Wojciech has the genes of his dad. He has something that you cannot give to people, for technical work. He has that presence." - Arsene Wenger

Random fact:  He is the son of former Polish international goalkeeper Maciej Szczesny, who once hit the headlines for punching Roberto Mancini in the face.

Now there you have it!
